Russell County Death Investigatioin

(Russell Springs, KY.) – Detective Jamie Richard is investigating the death of 32-year-old Waylon G. Atchley of Shawnee Avenue in Russell Springs, KY.  Russell County dispatch contacted KSP today at approximately 11:35 AM CST in reference to a body being found at the bottom of Indian Cave Hill Road in Russell County.  The death appears to be accidental in nature and no foul play is suspected.  An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow with the State Medical Examiner in Frankfort.

Green County Injury Collision

(Greensburg, KY.) – Sgt. Andy Olson is investigating a collision that occurred today at 7:40 AM CST at the intersection of KY 61 and US 68 in Greensburg.  32-year-old Sarah Shuffett of Columbia was traveling north on KY 61 operating a 2009 Chevy Impala.  The vehicle began hydroplaning as she entered a curve causing her to lose control.  The vehicle struck a rock embankment and overturned.  Shuffett and a passenger, 9-year-old Gracie Todd, of Columbia, were both belted, treated and released from Jane Todd Hospital in Greensburg....read more

Seven Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Preliminary statistics* indicate that seven people died in seven separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012.

Five of the victims were traveling in motor vehicles and three were not wearing seat belts. One single fatality crash occurred in each of the following counties: Jefferson, Larue, Mason, Perry and Warren.

One fatality was the result of a motorcycle crash in Todd County.

One pedestrian was killed in Henderson County.

(TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky.) - 81-year-old Charles Hammer of Tompkinsville has been arrested and charged with the Murder of Herbert Proffitt.  Hammer was charged at the Tompkinsville Police Department and will be lodged in the Monroe County Jail.  Proffitt had served in law enforcement for over 50 years having served terms as the Tompkinsville Police Chief and the Monroe County Sheriff.  Kentucky State Police Detective Ricky Brooks is continuing the investigation.

Allman has been indicted for Rape after a meeting of the Russell County Grand Jury on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.  The new charge is in addition to original charges of Murder, Robbery 1st Degree, Kidnapping and Tampering with Physical Evidence.  Allman was also indicted on Friday, June 22 with additional charges of Fetal Homicide and being a Persistent Felony Offender.

Injury collision on HWY 80

(Adair County, KY) - Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 15 Columbia responded to a injury collision on HWY 80 in Adair county.  Unit one operated by Byron Raines age 21 of Columbia was operating a 2002 Ford F250 pulling a trailer.  Unit two a 2006 Scion was operated by Samantha Bryant age 25 of Columbia.  Raines pulled onto HWY 80 from Wheat Rd into the path of Bryant.  Bryant struck the back of the trailer Raines was pulling.  Both were belted.  Bryant was transported to the Westlake Regional Hospital for treatment of her...read more

Fatal Collision on Hwy 76

Trooper Bryan Shepard is investigating a fatal collision that occurred today on Highway 76, 2 miles west of Webbs Crossroads.  42 year old Rodney Irvin was operating a 1996 Chevrolet westbound on Highway 76 when he ran off the roadway, overturned, and was ejected from the vehicle.  Irvin was pronounced deceased by the Russell County Coroner.  Irvin was not wearing a seatbelt.

Death Investigation in Casey County

(Casey County, KY) – Trooper. Mike Woodrum is investigating the death of 19-year-old Antonio Hernandez.  Post 15 received the call today at 12:45 EDT from Casey County Coroner Tommy Clark. Hernandez was found by friends in a field about 1/2 mile from his residence at 249 Sharp Rd, 6 miles north of Liberty, after not returning home from going deer hunting.  The investigation revealed that Hernandez died from a single gunshot wound to the head after his .22 caliber rifle accidentally discharged.  No foul play is expected a...read more

Mike Woodrum is investigating a collision that occurred earlier today at approximately 8:30 AM CST 5 miles north of Liberty on US 0127.  The collision occurred when a Southbound 2003 Ford 4-door, operated by 20-year-old Joshua R.
